George and Charlotte’s Birth: Trip Down Memory Lane

George and Charlotte’s Birth: Trip Down Memory Lane

It is officially April 1st  which means The Great Kate Wait 2k18 has begun! I have a post right here, which is dedicated to live updates on everything Kate and the baby! To prepare ourselves, lets take a look back at George and Charlotte’s pregnancy announcements and everything leading up to the birth!

After William and Kate’s wedding on April 29th, 2011, the next big question was: when would William and Kate be hearing the pitter-patter of royal baby feet? The couple made it clear they were keen to start a family, but were going to take their time and focus on their relationship, jobs, and Kate’s transition into the royal family.
Every month there would be a new story about how she was pregnant (or couldn’t get pregnant…well we know that’s not true). One of the times they claimed she was pregnant was at the end of September 2012 when she was toasting with water while everyone toasted with an alcoholic beverage. While she was obviously pregnant then, there was no way she knew as she was probably only pregnant for days.

In November 2012, William and Kate made their first visit to Cambridge, their Duchy, and William received a baby onesie, which said “Daddy’s little co-pilot”. They likely already knew she was pregnant with Baby Cambridge 1.0.

On November 30th of 2012, Kate had an engagement to her old school, St. Andrews, in Pangbourne, Berkshire. Little did the world know that she had her own little secret.

On December 3rd, 2012, Clarence House had made the announcement that everyone had been waiting for since April 29th, 2011. Kate was pregnant! Sadly, it also came with the news she was in Hospital suffering with Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness that could be fatal to both mother and child if not treated.

William was seen leaving the hospital that same night and for the next few days was seen coming and going.

She also got visits from her siblings, James and Pippa Middleton.

Three days after being admitted to the hospital, Kate was finally released from the hospital and returned to Kensington Palace for a period of rest.

Kate was still feeling very badly but decided she was well enough to attend the BBC Sports Personality of The Year Awards. She was driven to the venue at the end of the ceremony, presented, chatted with the winners back stage, and then was driven back to Kensington Palace all under 40 minutes.

That Christmas, Kate was still not feeling well and it was decided she should spend Christmas with her family since it was less uptight then Christmas with the royal family. She also wished to spend her last Christmas before mother-hood with her family.

On January 14th, 2013, the palace announced Kate was expecting a baby in July
In February 2013, William and Kate joined the Middletons on their annual trip to Mustique and we got the first baby bump pictures!

Kate did many engagements across the UK during her pregnancy. She attended her last official solo engagement, before taking maternity leave , on June 13th. She christened a boat named The Royal Princess!

Her last public appearance came on June 15th, along with other members of the royal family, at the Trooping of The Color!

During her maternity leave, Kate spent most of her time in London, instead of Angelesy, and was seen out and about a few times before the baby was born:

As I mentioned, Kate stayed in London for safety reasons while William was going back and forth from Anglesey to London and had a helicopter waiting for him in case she went into labor while he was away.

He also reluctantly played  some polo. William is said to have thought about dropping out but Kate reassured him she was fine and told him to go! This was exactly one week before Baby Cambridge was born!

Meanwhile, in the Royal Family, news broke that Baby Cambridge would be getting a new (second) cousin! Zara Tindall, The Queens eldest granddaughter, was expecting her first child!

In the earl hours of July 22nd, 2013, The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Labor! Finally, The Great Kate Wait 2k13 was coming to an end!

After MANY hours of waiting, the news finally came through that UK had a new future KING. The Duchess of Cambridge had given birth to a son at 4:24 p.m. and weighing 8 pounds and 6 ounces!

They followed tradition and an easel was placed outside of Buckingham Palace announcing the birth of the new Prince!

That night, monuments around the UK and the Commonwealth lit up blue in celebration of the baby Prince!

Prince William was the envy of many dads around the world as he brought out the little prince in his car seat and buckled him in perfectly:

After many visitors. the prince and his family packed up the car and headed to Buckelbury to stay at his maternal grandparents home fort he first few weeks of his life!

On July 24th, his name was finally announced! The baby was named: George Alexander Louis and would be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.

The Great Kate Wait 2k13 was officially over…but it wasn’t long until the next one came along!

After George was born, everyone was already questioning when they would be giving George a little sibling. everyone knew it would come but I don’t think many people expected it to be so soon.
In August 2014, William and Kate were wrapping up the renovations for their country home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk and the two were seen out on a little date night while George was in London with Granny Carol and Nanny Maria. Perhaps they were celebrating the news that Baby Cambridge 2.0 was on the way!

On September 8th, 2014, William and Kate were scheduled to open Dickson Poon University of Oxford China Centre in London but instead the amazing news that they were expecting Baby Cambridge 2.0 is on the way!

Kate was once again suffering from Hyperemisis Gravidarum. She was scheduled for her first solo overseas trip at the end of September to Malta but William ended up taking her place.

This time around the sickness seemed to have lasted much longer. I don’t know if it was because she wasn’t as far along as the first around or if it was because she had a little toddler who wanted her attention.  On October 20th it was announced that Baby Cambridge 2.0 was due in April. Kate returned to public duties by welcoming the President of Singapore on October 21st.

That Christmas, Anmer Hall was ready to be used! As I mentioned in this post, Anmer Hall is on the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. Having their own home allows William and Kate to host The Middletons as well as being able to see the Royals! Great balance if you asked me!

In February 2015, William, Kate, and George joined The Middletons for their annual Mustique trip once again! This time Kate stayed away from the beach and spent time with George on the sidelines.

Kate carried out her last public engagement before the baby was born on March 27th alongside William. They visited many charities that focus on youth development .

April came and we waited…and waited…and waited…but this baby just did not want to arrive! We did get a few photos of Kate out and about with George during her Maternity leave.

April came and went but Baby Cambridge 2.0 was still not here! It wasn’t until the early hours of May 2nd did we get confirmation that the baby was FINALLY on its way!

Labor announcement

We didn’t have to wait long or the official announcement! 5 hours later news came from Kensington palace announcing that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had welcomed a daughter at 8:34 a.m. weighing 8 pounds and 3 ounces! The most senior royal lady to be born in over 65 years!

Baby Confirmation

The birth was formally announced at Buckingham Palace with an easel being placed  outside the palace!

Meanwhile, Prince George was home at Kensington Palace with Granny Carol, Grandpa Mike, and Nanny Maria. It wasn’t long until William returned to Kensington to pick up his young son to go meet his new little sister! He showed us all to professionally do the royal wave!

George slipped out the back with Granny Carol as Kensington Palace announced Kate would be going home that same day! She came out looking absolutely gorgeous with her newborn daughter and her husband!

They went back into the hospital and buckled their young daughter into her car seat and made another appearance before going home:

The Great Kate Wait 2k15 was over and we thought it was the last time we would be doing this….

Baby Cambridge 3.0

And now here we are folks! I don’t think many of us thought we would be doing this a third time around! Well the world didn’t think they would either!  Not many expected William and Kate to go for a third child because no senior member of the royal family has had a third child since Queen Elizabeth had Prince Andrew over 58 years ago!

The first hint that William and Kate were planning on expanding their family came while they were on tour in Poland and were gifted toys to soothe a newborn child, which made Kate say, “We should just have more babies.”. It was talked about all over the world but no one really took it seriously. Kate was already pregnant then but there was no way she knew.

On September 4th, 2017, Kate was scheduled for an engagement in London but suddenly canceled. The news then came from Kensington Palace that “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that The Duchess is expecting their third child.” Sadly, she was once again suffering from Hyperemisus Gravidarum.

Pregnancy announcement #3
Kate was still not feeling great but she made her first public appearance after the announcement on October 10th, Mental Health Day.

Kate has had a busy schedule since she is now a full-time royal and being pregnant didn’t stop her! She went on a four day tour to Sweden and Norway and mingled with the Scandinavian royals!

Kate undertook her last public engagement on March 22nd, finishing off her busiest start of the year to date with 47 engagements.

And now here we are…waiting. Let’s hope this baby doesn’t take tips from big sister Charlotte!
