Prince Louis’ Christening

 

July 9th was such a beautiful and magical day, not only for The Cambridge Family but for us, the Royal Watchers. We finally got to see The Cambridges as a Quintet!

 

Godparents

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose 5 of their closest friends and one of their family members to be given the position of godparent to their youngest child, Prince Louis. They chose:

 

Mr. Nicholas Van Cutsem

Nicholas Van Cutsem is a long-time friend of The Duke of Cambridge. His brother, William Van Cutsem, is Prince George’s godfather. Nicholas commanded the mounted Household Cavalry soldiers who accompanied William and Kate’s carriage back to Buckingham Palace from Westminster Abbey after their wedding.



Mr. Guy Pelly
A close friend of The Duke of Cambridge. I was very shocked to see his name on the list considering his controversial past and I was almost sure Prince Harry had dibs on him for a godparent but I guess I was wrong! He seems to have calmed and settled down the last few year so I guess its okay.

 



Mr. Harry Aubrey-Fletcher

Another longtime friend of The Duke of Cambridge. They went to both Ludgrove Prep School and Eton College together. William was an usher at his wedding in 2011, which was the first wedding that William and Kate attended together after announcing their engagement.



The Lady Laura Meade

Laura Meade is a close friend to both The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and has known them both for a very long time. She lives in the Norfolk area and is frequently spotted at with The Cambridges including most recently at the Polo game. She has twin boys and is married to James Meade,who is Princess Charlotte’s godfather. Below she is pictured with Kate, George, and Charlotte in June 2018 holding one of her twin baby boys!


Mrs. Hannah Carter

Longtime friend of The Duchess of Cambridge. They went to school together at Malborough College.

 

Miss Lucy Middleton

Few days ago I made a godparent guess on my Instagram and Lucy Middleton was the only one I correctly guessed. She is The Duchess of Cambridge’s paternal cousin. Below she is pictured with her brother Adam, who is Princess Charlotte’s godfather!

The Service

For Prince Louis’ service, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose two hymns, two lessons, and two anthems.

The Hymns were:

– O Jesus, I Have Promised

 


-Lord of All Hopefulness

 

The readings were:
-Mark 10: 13-16 by Ms. Lucy Midddleton
 
The Little Children and Jesus:
 
13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms,placed his hands on them and blessed them.

A Prayer for Ephesians
14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
And Finally the two Anthems were:
-This is the day which the Lord hath made. This was composed for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding day.
-Suo Gân, a traditional Welsh Lullaby

Prince Louis was christened by The Archbishop of Canterbury and was supported by The Dean of The Chapel Royal, The Right Reverend and Right Honourable the Lord Chartres, and The Sub-Dean of the Chapel Royal, The Reverend Canon Paul Wright. The Lily Font, a silver baptismal font which was commissioned by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840 after the birth of their first child, Victoria, Princess Royal, was used during the christening to hold the water from The River Jordan which was used to anoint his head.
 
The Guests
The other guests included the immediate family of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Prince Louis’ Grandparents The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Mrs. Carol Middleton, and Mr. Michael Middleton were present.
 
 
Prince Louis’ Aunts and Uncles The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Mrs. Pippa Matthew, and Mr. James Matthews were present. James Middleton was also there but arrived with Godmother Laura Meade so you can scroll up to see him!
 
 

 

The Main Family

And of course the stars of today’s show, The Cambridge Quintet! This was the first time we saw The Cambridges as a family of five! They arrived together with George, Charlotte, and William in blue and Kate on white. Prince Louis was of course wearing the traditional royal christening gown.


The Duchess of Cambridge looked absolutely radiant and happy gazing at her little boy! It was so good to see her once again!


This is a video of The Guests and Royals arriving to the christening but you can also see how much of little royal pros George and Charlotte are as they politely shook hands with all the Bishops.

 

After the ceremony, The guest and little family of five left the Chapel Royal and headed to Clarence House for some tea!

Here is a video of The royals and guests leaving the christening. At the end you can hear Charlotte say, “you’re not coming” to the photographers. Such a funny little girl!

So that’s all for this christening post. It was such a joy to see this little family all together and I very much look forward to the future moments. Sadly, I believe this is the last Cambridge Christening but who know they may surprise us 😉 !
