It has been another exciting weeks for not just The Cambridges but The British Royal Family as a whole so let’s just jumo right in to this week’s Cambridge Overview!
On May 6th, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their first child, a son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, into the world. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were delighted and said to be very excited to meet their second nephew! Congratulations!
On Tuesday, Kensington Palace announced a new annual event for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge! They will host The King’s Cup to raise awareness and funds for eight of Their Royal Highnesses’ patronages! It is a sailing race which will see 8 of William and Catherine’s patronages to go head to head for the trophy! They will also race each other! You can find more details here and in the video below:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge then showed up to their embargoed engagement to officially launch their event! The launch occurred at the Cutty Sark , one of the “last clippers to be built and one of the fastest, coming at the end of a long period of design development, which halted as sailing ships gave way to steam propulsion”.
They were greeted at the engagement by Sir Keith Mills who is the chairman of The Royal Foundation. His name appears quite frequently in the Court Circular because William and Catherine both have frequent meetings there!
Before heading into the engagement The Duke and Duchess gave a statement about Baby Boy Sussex! They both said they were thrilled and William welcomed his brother into the “Sleep Deprivation Society”! My favorite part of the video is William reminding the media this is their second nephew as they are already Aunt and Uncle to little Arthur Matthew, son of Kate’s sister Pippa!

William and Kate headed inside where they got some practice for their race by taking part in a simulated race! These two are extremely competitive and at one point William asked Kate “are you sinking yet?”!
They were assisted by Ethan and Sam, children who are supported by Catherine’s patronage, Place2Be:
At the event were also representatives of the 8 charities that they chose for this years King’s Cup! They each chose 4 of their respective patronages! Kate chose: Action on Addiction, Anne Freud Center, The Royal Foundation (for her Early Years Program), and Place2Be which the children she is talking to below are from!
William on the other hand chose the London Air Ambulance’s 30 Year Anniversary Appeal, Tusk Trust, Child Bereavement, and his first patronage, Centerpoint!
They then unveiled the trophy that the winning team will take home after the race! The winning team will be awarded The King’s Cup, a historic trophy first presented by King George V at Cowes’ Royal Yacht Squadron in 1920.
To finish off the the engagement, William and Catherine went on an impromptu walk about outside!
Love this picture of them!
The Duchess of Cambridge went for a gorgeous Nautical look which I loved! She wore an almost entirely new outfit with a Unidentified top, LK Bennet Navy Trousers, and Emmy London Navy Heels. The only repeat was her Emmy London ‘Natasha’ Clutch! The red is a gorgeous pop of color and I loved the whole look!
A video from the engagement:
On May 8th, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had a day of engagements in North Wales to meet with individuals and organisations in the region who are “encouraging people to look after their communities and protect the natural environment”.
They began their day in Caernarfon where they visited the Caernarfon Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter Base where they viewed the Coastguard’s new Sikorsky S92 helicopters!
Love this picture of them! William’s two babies: Kate and Helicopters haha!
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge then met members of the search and rescue team! William surely recognized many of them as they had worked along side The Duke from 2010-2013 when he was working as a Search and Rescue Pilot. Below he is pictured catching up with his former colleagues Mike and Rich!
William and Kate joined a discussion with crewmembers about the mental health challenges that result from working as first responders
And a picture of Kate and a baby because why not and she’s the cutest human being on the planet!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge then headed to the little town they called home for more than 3 years, Anglesey. Below is them taking walk along the beach in early 2012 while living in Anglesey.
William and Kate first visited Halen Môn Anglesey Sea Salt, a thriving local business which has been operating for over two decades, and which won the Queen’s Award for Sustainability in 2017.
At Halen Môn Anglesey, The Duke and Duchess saw salt making process from hand harvesting to packaging, and learned more about Halen Môn’s collaborations with other local food producers, and their involvement in community initiatives.
For the first two engagement, The Duchess of Cambridge repeated her Red Philosophy Blazer with her Auqtalia ‘Rumba’ Bootsand her Black Aspinal of London bag!
For their final engagement, which was previously embargoed, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge headed to Newborough Beach and joined pupils from local primary schools on a beach clean-up organised by the Isle of Anglesey County Council and marine conservation group, Surfers Against Sewage.
They also met 1st Menai Bridge Group to explore the beach’s wildlife habitat, and hear more about the importance of the nesting bird colonies on neighbouring Llanddwyn Island.
A very interesting and happy fact from Kensington Palace: “In April, Anglesey became the first county in the UK to be awarded Plastic Free Communities status by the group, in recognition of its work to reduce the impact of single-use plastic on the environment through its the ‘Plastic Free Anglesey’ campaign”.
For the last engagement, The Duke and Duchess both had a quick change with The Duchess wearing a new Troy London Navy Parka with her Barbour Jacket underneath and her Penelope Chilver Boots she’s had for 15 years!
A video of the engagement:
On May 9th, The Duke of Cambridge held and investiture at Buckingham Palace on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen! Pictured below with Prince William is Rabbi Warren Elf collecting his MBE (Order of the British Empire) for his services to the Community in Manchester. Through his work for the Faith Network, Rabbi Elf played a critical role following the Manchester Arena attacks in 2017.
On May 10th, a new project that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, alongside The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, was announced! SHOUT which is the first free 24/7 direct messaging service for anyone in crisis anytime, anywhere. The foursome have been working on this since last year and have already passed the trial stage where 1,000 volunteers have worked tirelessly receiving around 60,000 messages! That was just in the trial phase imagine how much more they will accomplish now that it is out in the open! They are looking for volunteers so if you’re interested, check this page out!
In a statement released, they said:
“We are incredibly excited to be launching this service, knowing it has the potential to reach thousands of vulnerable people every day. Over the last few months Shout has started working quietly behind the scenes. We have all been able to see the service working up close and are so excited for its future. At the heart of this service will be an incredible national volunteer community, one which needs to grow to allow us to support more people in crisis. We hope that many more of you will join us and be part of something very special”.
A promotional video for the initiative featuring The Duke of Cambridge can be viewed below:
The day before the announcement went around the world (May 9th), The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge invited reporters and some volunteers for a private launch of the initiative at Kensington Palace! Both The Duke and Duchess gave speeches with Kate talking about her research and work in early development but remarked not everyone could get help: “Sadly for so many they already reached a crisis situation. That’s why we believe SHOUT is so important”. I personally think it was a mistake not releasing anything from this event.
Later on Friday, it was announced that The Duke of Cambridge will be joining Gareth Southgate, manager of England’s National Team, and his team of “football royalty” to discuss men’s mental health. A Royal Team Talk: Tackling Mental Health will premiere on BBCONE and BBC iPLAYER on May 19th at 10:30 p.m. The documentary is part of Prince William’s wider work on the issue plus he is the President of the FA! The trailer can be viewed below:
And just like that the week is over! It has been very exciting with all the projects that have been announced! Just goes to show we really don’t know what they are doing behind the scenes!
Next week, both The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be out and about on May 14th with Catherine heading to Bletchley Park to view a special D-Day exhibition in the newly restored Teleprinter Building, marking the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings. William on the other-hand will be attending a joint meeting of the United4Wildlife taskforces for the financial and transport sector. On May 15th, the first of many summer garden parties at Buckingham Palace will be held. Royal Attendance (other than that of The Queen) is never confirmed so we may see William and Kate pop up (although I don’t think they’ll attend this one). Keep an eye out for some more embargoed engagements as I’ve already heard of one but we’ll see!
