Cambridge Overview

Cambridge Overview: June 17th-22nd

This week we saw a bit more Pomp and Pageantry plus one of the best few days in the British Fashion calendar! Let’s just head right into this week’s Cambridge Overview…

June 17th:

Monday marked the beginning of Children’s Hospice Week and, as patron of EACH Hospice, The Duchess of Cambridge usually releases a later. This year’s theme was ‘Moments That Matter’ and she wrote:

In the afternoon, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined The Queen to attend the annual Order of the Garter Service at St. George’s Chapel! The Order of The Garter is “most senior order of knighthood in the British honors system”.

The Duke of Cambridge was created a ‘Knight’ in 2008 shortly before his 26th birthday:

That was the very first service Kate attended! Her presence was a pretty big deal considering the service is one of the most important days on the British Royal Family’s annual calendar and Kate wasn’t even married in yet. She wasn’t kept hidden or put away with the rest of the guests but stood alongside the other senior members of the Royal Family.

This year the service was extra special for Royal Watchers as it saw some Foreign Royalty descend upon Windsor! The King and Queen of Spain and The King and Queen of The Netherlands were in attendance. King Felipe of Spain was invested after being given the honor during his July 2017 State Visit:

King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands was also officially invested after receiving his order in October 2018 during his State Visit:

Queen Letizia of Spain and Queen Maxima of The Netherlands were in attendance to watch their husbands be invested into the service! The photo below is quite remarkable: Two Queens, Two Duchesses, and A Countess.

Queen Letizia and Queen Maxima of are two of my favorite Royal Ladies and it is always nice to see the interacting with Kate who is my favorite royal lady haha!

There is a video somewhere but this was the moment Kate was telling Queen Maxima how to get to the front of the Chapel (they were at a side entrance to watch the procession):

Every year I always wait for this moment when Kate finally sees her husband! She always has the biggest smile!

After the service, The Royals and Knights emerged on the steps of St. George’s Chapel. Kate and Queen Maxima were chatting the whole time and seem to get along greatly!

Here The Duchess is sharing a joke with The King and Queen! They both attended William and Kate’s wedding in 2011 and Kate’s first solo overseas trip in 2016 was to The Netherlands where she had a meeting with King Willem-Alexander.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge accompanied The King and Queen of Spain in a carriage back to Windsor Castle. If you’ve been following me for awhile, you’d known Spain is at the top of my tour wishlist so this was a dream to see:

Kate and Letizia looking gorgeous:

William and Felipe in all their Order of The Garter regalia:

The Duchess of Cambridge opted for a new Catherine Walker coatdress with a fan favorite Lock and Co, hat and her Prada Pumps:

A video of the carriage procession:

June 18th:

On Tuesday, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined other members of The Royal Family to attend the annual horse racing event: Royal Ascot!

The took part in the Royal Carriage procession and sat in the second Carriage with The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, Below we have Kate and Camilla:

And the father and son, Charles and William:

The King and Queen of The Netherlands decided to stay in the U.K. for one more day to attend Royal Ascot and were once again pictured chatting and laughing with The Duke and Duchess!

My favorite parts about events like these is seeing the extended family all interact and chat! Mike and Zara Tindall and as usual, we got some of the best photos of them together!

Kate greeting Zara with a Kiss and a Hug! They even looked a bit color coordinated:

Since the beginning of her relationship with William, Kate has been close to Zara and they always gravitate towards each other at royal events. Their bond has only strengthened as the years have gone by:

William and Zara are only a year apart and she has been practically a big sister to him his whole life:

Here’s Kate chatting to Eugenie and Zara. Lots speculating Eugenie is pregnant but i’d rather wait for an officially announcement:

Here’s a video of Mike Tindall pulling out a mini hat out of his big hat and showing The Queen haha:

William and Kate then headed up to the Royal Box with the rest of the family to watch some races!

Towards the end of the day, William and Kate presented a trophy to one of the winners!

The Duchess of Cambridge looked GORGEOUS in what has probably been my favorite outfit of the year so far! She wore a Elie Saab, a designer that many royal watchers and myself have been waiting for her to wear, dress with a Philip Treacy hat! Instead of her usual nude accessories, she wore some new silver Gianvito Rossi pumps with a new silver Elie Saab clutch. The whole look was A+++

She’s just a Timeless beauty:

You can watch the full procession below:

June 19th:

On June 19th, The Duke of Cambridge was joined by his brother to hold a Royal Foundation Trustees meeting. Lots of speculation on the future of the current set up in the Royal Foundation…time will tell but I think we will find out soon.

June 20th:

It was officially announced on Thursday that The Sussexes have split from The Royal foundation and it will stick with the Cambridges. My full post is here which includes all the facts and my thoughts.

Below is the official press release and the last paragraph details the exciting future plans for The Cambridges!

June 21st:

Yesterday, The Duke of Cambridge celebrated his 37th birthday. Articles say he was gifted a scrapbook filled with pictures of his children and artwork from them as well. The Duchess is said to have been working on the present, said to be titled “Den there were Three”, for the past year and hid the book at Pippa’s London home. Obviously we don’t know if it’s true but its sweet to imagine it!

A video of William’s mile stones in his 36th year!

It also emerged that Prince William sent a sweet first birthday present to Neve the daughter of The Prime Minister of New Zealand, who is his birthday twin! The little toy, shared on social media by her father, had “Happy Birthday Neve, From Prince William” engraved on the bottom.

What the made the gift even more thoughtful is that it resembles a toy William played with while on tour with his parents in 1983!

That’s all for this weeks Cambridge Overview! Nothing has been announced so far for next week but I seriously doubt The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge won’t have any engagements so maybe something embargoed? Who knows! Until next week!
