Cambridge Overview

Cambridge Overview: June 24th-29th

It’s been a week of a few surprise apearances and some exciting news we’ve been waiting for! Let’s head into this week’s Cambridge Overview…

Weekend News:

Over the weekend (June 22nd-23rd) two interesting stories emerged. The first is the Daily Mail is reporting that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will undertake a Major tour of Asia in the Fall. We already knew that they would have something in the fall thanks to ROyal Reporters but we are just waiting for official confirmation from the palace. I would LOVE a tour of Asia!

The second story was that one of Prince William’s best friends, Thomas Van Straubenzee, is engaged to be married! Thomas was once married before to Lady Melissa Percy  in 2013 before their divorce in 2016. Another wedding means The Duke will play Usher again at his second wedding but this time Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who is Thomas’ goddaughter, will join the fun! The original article from the Sunday Times only mentioned the two eldest Cambridge children but depending when the wedding is (no likely date has been given), I’m hoping Prince Louis joins them! Plus, Kate will be able to attend Thomas’ second wedding as she was heavily pregnant with Prince George at his first in 2013!

June 25th:

On Tuesday Afternoon Kensington Palace announced that The Queen had passed down her patronage, which she had held for 67 years, of the Royal Photographic Society to The Duchess of Cambridge. The Royal Photographic Society was founded in 1853 with the objective of promoting the art and science of photography.

The Duchess of Cambridge clearly has a passion for photography! In 2007 she organized a photography exhibit for UNICEF and she used to work at her parent’s business as a photographer. Below is Kate at the exhibit in 2007:

The exhibit was organized with photographs by celebrity portrait photographer Alistair Morrison. Alistair, who Kate had known and worked a bit with since her University days, said on the launch day: “She is very, very good, and it shows. She takes very beautiful detailed photographs. She has a huge talent and a great eye. I’m sure she will go far.”

25-year-old Kate was supported at the event by her whole family, lots of friends, and of course her boyfriend, Prince William, who arrived later in the evening and went to dinner with her and the Middletons (they had gotten back together a few months earlier but were still trying to keep media attention off their relationship). One sweet guest who showed up to support Catherine was Laura Lopes (née Parker-Bowles), the daughter of The Duchess of Cornwall. At the time she was pregnant with her first child, Eliza, and the little girl would go on to be one of William and Kate’s bridesmaids less than 4 years later!

The first time we saw Catherine’s own pictures was at the end of 2012 when her photos, taken in Malaysia during the couples Diamond Jubilee Tour, were released.

She is of course mainly known for taking her children’s official portraits for birthdays and other occasions. Below are both Princess Charlotte (2016) and Prince Louis’ (2019)  first birthday portraits:

The top picture was taken by Kate for Charlotte’s 2nd (2017) birthday and the ones on the bottom were for her 4th birthday (2019):

These are the photos sets taken by mummy which were Princess Charlotte (2015) and Prince Louis’ (2018) first official photos:

And she also took the photos released to mark Prince George (2016) and Princess Charlotte’s (2018) first day of nursery:

After the announcement, The Duchess of Cambridge made a surprise visit to Warren Park Children’s Center for a workshop in collaboration with the Royal Photographic Society.

The workshop was also in collaboration with another one of her patronages, Action For Children, and she was shown some pictures and a small makeshift exhibit:

The Duchess of Cambridge got into the exercises that was part of the workshop. Below she is with a young girl examining a photo she had presumably taken.

One of my favorite things about Kate is how she is never afraid to get into whatever the engagement has for her!

One of the children who certainly entertained The Duchess was Josh Evans! He has a newly founded passion for photograph and chatted with Kate all about it:

Love this photo taken by my favorite royal photographer, Chris Jackson, of Josh exploring his camera:

Beautiful Summer flowers for the Beautiful Duchess…

For her engagement, The Duchess of Cambridge wore a new Ridley London dress with a Paisley pattern plus her Castañer Carina wedges.

June 26th:

On Tuesday, The Duke of Cambridge had an unannounced engagement. Ahead the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots and the upcoming Pride parade in London, William visited the Albert Kennedy Trust in London to learn about homelessness among LGBTQ+ youth.

The Albert Kennedy Trust is the national LGBTQ youth homelessness charity, providing safe homes and better futures for LGBTQ young people. He opened their new center in Hoxton.

June 27th:

On Thursday, The Duke of Cambridge took to twitter to send his personal congratulations to the Lionesses as they defeated Norway 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the Women’s World Cup! I love that he signs off the message with a simple ‘W’:

The Court Circular also revealed that in the afternoon, William visited Duchy of Cornwall properties in Somerset. Just another sign of his increased involvement with the Duchy!

It was a pretty short week engagement wise but there’s more to come! Monday marks the first day of July and, although it hasn’t been announced, we will likely see The Duchess of Cambridge at the Hampton Court Garden festival to view the second showing of her ‘Back To Nature Garden’.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, July 4th, The Duke of Cambridge will visit The Royal Marsden in Chelsea to learn about the psychological support being offered to staff, patients and their families.

See you all then and of course keep your eyes open for some announcements coming soon!
