Cambridge Overview: June 3rd-9th

This week included some very highly anticipated events and it was so much fun to be able to experience (and freak out) it all together! Lets begin this week’s Cambridge Overview!

June 3rd:

The week began with a bang with the British pomp and pageantry being put on display as the President of the United States of America arrived for his 3-day State Visit to the U.K. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had no actual formal role in the state visit but they did attend the State Banquet Monday evening!

The Duke is pictured below escorting Theresa May to her seat at the State Banquet which was one of her final events as Prime Minister. She officially resigned on Friday.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore a new Alexander McQueen white ruffled dress and an Alexander McQueen clutch she used earlier this year at the BAFTAs! Her accessories included: Queen Mary’s Lovers Knot tiara, The Queen Mother’s Sapphire and Fringe earrings, her Oak Leaf (Acorn) Brook, and what appears to be a new pearl bracelet!

We were anxiously awaiting this event mainly because it was the first time The Duchess of Cambridge would be seen with her Royal Victorian Order Insignia (the blue sash and silver star badge)! You’ll recall that it was announced on April 29th, her 8th Wedding Anniversary, that The Duchess was made Grand Dame Cross of the Royal Victorian Order but she was officially invested on May 21st at Buckingham palace! Catherine also wore her Royal Family Order that she received some time between July-December 2017! Details:

Some screen grabs from the video of the entries and speeches by The Queen and President. I don’t know whether William is rolling his eyes or trying to not fall asleep haha:

And here we have Kate…I’ve read that these things can be quite boring:

A video:

The Royal Family shared a few pictures of the table before everyone arrived and I have to say it’s quite gorgeous and very precise!

June 4th:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge held a private meeting with the Chairman, Sir Keith Mills, and Chief Executive, Ms Lorraine Heggessey, of The Royal Foundation which they currently share with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The two of them have been having lots of joint and solo meetings with The Royal Foundation and it could be for their current and upcoming projects or the rumor that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be breaking away. If they officially announce something about that, I’ll write a more in depth piece on it.

June 6th:

On Thursday morning, The Duke of Cambridge attended a service at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire to mark the 75th anniversary since the D-Day landing in Normandy.

Prince William gave a moving speech which brought many of the veterans to tears. One of my favorite parts of the speech was when he truthfully said: “At this historic moment surely not one of us is too busy too young, or to old to play part in a nation-wide, perchance a world-wide vigil of prayer as the great crusade sets forth.”

The Duke laid a wreath at the Normandy Camp Memorial as part of the service and on it was written a special note stating: “In memory of all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We will remember them.”

The Duke of Cambridge met over 20 veterans who were attending the memorial service and took time to speak to each of them!

At one point William bent down to better hear one of the elderly veterans and the man said “I thought it was us who had to go on bended knee to you.” The Duke replied: ” Not you guys”

A video of the engagement including his speech:

In the evening, The Duchess of Cambridge had a surprise engagement at the Horse Guards Parade where she attended the House Division’s annual Beating Retreat!

It was a royal first for The Duchess as she was given the honor of taking the Salute at the event:

The Household Division’s Beating Retreat is “a spectacular evening pageant of music and military precision drill, including horses, cannon and fireworks”. The event takes place annually right before The Queen’s official birthday celebration, Trooping The Color:

Kate wore a Catherine Walker dress she first debuted while departing Canada in 2016 and again on Easter Sunday 2017! She paired it with a Mulberry England clutch and one of her favorite Gianvito Rossi pumps!

Kate accessorized with some Cassandra Goad Cavolfiore Pearl Studs she wore at Prince Louis’ christening in July 2018 and a Shamrock Brooch that she normally wears at the St. Patricks Day Parade! Prince William is the Colonel of the Irish Guards as well.

Something about this event just made Kate’s regalness (is that a word?) jump out and she looked so Queenly! I know what it entails but I can’t wait for her to be the next Princess of Wales and eventually Queen Catherine!

A video from the event:

June 7th:

On Friday, The Duke of Cambridge attended a dinner at Clarence House which was for the Colonels participating in Trooping the Color!

June 8th:

Finally, the day that I wait for every single year came! It was Trooping The Color! The whole Cambridge Family attended and it was such a joy to see! First up was the Carriage procession with The Duchess of Cambridge joining The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the first carriage!

The Duke of Cambridge is the Royal Colonel of the Irish Guards so he rides on horseback along The Queen’s carriage!

The Duchess looked stunning in a pale yellow Alexander McQueen dress and a Philip Treacy hat that she wore to The Royal Wedding in May 2018!

She wore a new Cross necklace and borrowed once again The Queen’s Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings.

Video of the Carriage procession:

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis watched the departure and return of the carriages from the Buckingham Palace Window!

Heres a short video of what they got up to! Looks like Charlotte and Louis were having a waving contest haha:

Everyone returned to Buckingham Palace which is where the most exciting part happened: Their balcony appearance for the flypast!

It was Prince Louis’ first time joining his family and he no doubt stole the show with his little expression and enthusiastic wave!

The whole time I couldn’t stop smiling at his funny little faces!

Princess Charlotte seemed to have a great time as well but Prince George seemed a bit out of it which is totally fine for a 5-year old!

From the very beginning Prince Louis was reaching for his PaPa and in the end got his way! Looks like he’s a daddy’s boy!

The whole video is below and I know many of us will be watching this over and over again for the next few days!

Another view focused on The Cambridges!

Such an exciting week and the Royal Summer will only get better from here! From June 10th-13, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have a jam packed schedule of Events! See you all Then!
